No auditions. No experience required. No explanation owed.
A room where you already belong
Berlin has plenty of places to learn choreography. Far fewer where a first-timer, a queer dancer and a working professional can share the same barre without anyone having to justify their presence.
That is the lab: a space to train, sweat, ask the obvious question and be seen doing it. An open class series run by the collective that made radical representation its entire point — where the level you sign up for changes the difficulty, not the welcome.

Every class is open. You don't audition, and you don't have to be good enough — you just have to show up.
Absolute Beginner
Never taken a dance class in your life? Perfect — this is where you start. We begin with breath, weight and the simplest possible shapes. Nothing is assumed: not vocabulary, not flexibility, not coordination.
Beginner
You know a few basics and want more room to move. We build vocabulary and confidence in equal measure, at a pace you can actually keep up with.
Intermediate
For dancers with a few years behind them: longer combinations, more texture, more dynamic range — and the space to make the movement yours.
Advanced & Professional
For pre-professional and working dancers. Rigorous, technical and unapologetically demanding — with exactly the same warmth as every other level.
Everybody starts in the same place
Warm-up
We start together — breath, spine, feet, floor. The same opening for every level, so beginners and professionals begin in the same place.
Technique
Ballet foundations and contemporary movement, taught in plain language instead of jargon.
Choreography
You leave with material you can actually dance, set at a level that stretches you without breaking you.
Community
The part that never makes it into a class description: the people. Stay after, ask questions, find your people.
Every class is taught by Nicholas
King Rose Dance Lab is led by Nicholas Isaiah King Rose, the founder of King Rose Dance Collective. He teaches every level of the series himself — from the absolute beginners to the working dancers who train around their contracts.
To Nicholas, dance is a constant dialogue between discipline and grace — a balance that requires strength and resilience. That is the balance he teaches.

- Do I need experience?
- No. Absolute beginners are the whole reason the lab exists. If you can walk into the room, you can take the class.
- Is it only for BIPOC and queer dancers?
- The lab is built by and for our community. It is a space where BIPOC and queer dancers are centred rather than accommodated — and everyone who respects that is welcome in the room.
- What do I wear?
- Something you can move in. Bare feet or socks are both fine, and there is no special equipment to buy.
- When do classes take place and what do they cost?
- Dates, times, sign-up and pricing for the current series are announced on Instagram first — that is where everything lives.
